Chiang Mai

dscf0277.JPGDave having just gotten back from Japan, this past thursday dinner was definitely not going to be Japanese. So we went across the street from McBike to Chiang Mai. A quite popular Thai restaurant, and rightly so. Tasty food, reasonable price, nice atmosphere that’s not too stuffy not too casual, good service, conveniently located for us.

dscf0280.JPGWe started off with the daily special grilled eggland salad. Usually the green papaya is a standard, but this special sounded interesting, and it was quite yummy. Sorry for the bluro images, little digicam seems to have some difficulties focusing with the lighting & distance.

Timed nicely as we were finishing up the salad, our entrees arrived. A green curry with beef, calamari pepper sauce, baby corn with chicken, and sticky rice to soak up all the saucy goodness.

dscf0278.JPGWe had hedged a bit when specifyng the spicyness as “somewhere between medium and hot”. dscf0279.JPGThere was no need to worry, I would have characterized it as medium, if that. Last time we were here we orderd hot and got stuff with a nice intensity, so I’d say if you like it spicy, there’s no problem ordering hot. The green curry was great. The calamari looked evil, and quite pretty. Very tasty, but was not as spicy as it looked. If anything, the baby corn was the most uninteresting of the batch.

dscf0285.JPGdscf0286.JPGThe food was demolished in pretty quick order, leaving just enough space for dessert. Dave & Derek had the tapioca. I was foiled in attempting to get the fried banana ala mode. Curses! So I decided to try the vanilla truffle. Looked good, to be honest it wasn’t anything too special. Scoop of vanilla icecream with a dark chocolate shell. In all, it was quite an enjoyable meal.
