Jones Tactical Cobra 1.5” EveryDay Belt

I was a bad boy today. Mojo Dave had a nice Jones Tactical belt in Multicam in large, so I jumped on it. I’m not going to get too heavy into the technical details, since you can go to the Jones website or probably find a boatload of reviews online. It is 1.5” wide. My waist is 34, and there is like another inch, maybe inch-and-a-half left on the loop Velcro for the adjustment tab. The body is made from heavy coyote brown webbing overlapped on both sides with printed Multicam webbing with the joint nicely hidden and finished. The adjustment webbing is 1” printed Multicam webbing with Multicam printed loop Velcro under the tail. The buckle is a 1” Cobra buckle. At $75 USD, it is quite spendy as belts go, more toward the price range of some designer Italian trouser belt than a run-of the mill single-layer scuba webbing tactical belt. The material and build quality justify the price in my opinion.

As a belt, it works: It holds my pants up and holds adjustment. One would think that it’s pretty hard to mess that up, but I’ve heard of at least one tactical trouser belt that slips when you squat down. The three-layer construction is stiff enough that the belt doesn’t fold over at the back when you squat down or bend over. For everyday use, it is a little bit of a pain for me, because the blocky buckle ends are a tight fit through the belt loops of Levi’s jeans. You can’t just undo the end and yank the belt out like a traditional belt – it takes a more directed effort to thread the buckle ends out through the belt loops. It will probably fit through the larger belt loops on tactical pants much easier. The buckle is called out as “desert tan,” but it is effectively shiny effing GOLD anodized! So much for low observability! AustriAlpin does have subdued, milspec finishes in the works, so at some point there will be less blingy buckles available.
