The Hawaiian Airlines site says the inbound flight that turns around and takes me home has been delayed by almost 7-hours. In a way that’s good, since it puts the plane on the ground here in Haneda at 05: something tomorrow rather than at midnight when the typhoon will be arriving, reducing the chances that my return flight will get completely cancelled. The suck part for me is that means I will be sitting here another seven hours on top of the nine I will already otherwise be sitting here. I sort-of doubt that Hawaiian will spring for a hotel, so I will have a homeless night in the airport!

They just closed the observation deck due to rain (duh) and high winds. Next they will start waving off incoming aircraft. If the inbound Hawaiian flight makes it to the gate, I might have a chance of getting back as planned.
There was this little blip of a typhoon down near the Phillippines before I left for Japan when I checked the weather report for the time I was going to be here. No sooner did I arrive did the typhoon pick up speed and power and make a bee-line for Okinawa and barrel headlong into the main islands. The rain it was pushing in front of it made today pretty much a wash for doing anything, so I hung out at the airport from after lunch. My flight isn’t until just before midnight, and it looks like that is about when the typhoon is supposed to be arriving in the Kantou area. Great. I hope I don’t get stuck here overnight! It’s starting to rain like a MF now, but I can still see across the waterway to the next adjacent part of the Tokyo waterfront.
PITA free HND airport internet! At least it’s free though, unlike HNL. It took me about 45-minutes and nearly 20% of my battery life to figure out how it worked. Seems to be a little less buggy than the KIX free internet. Apparently a [space] is not a “one-bit character”…
Survived this Sunday’s Rally Cross in one piece, although same can’t be said of others! Broken radiator, dropped muffler and overheatage. It turned into an overcast day, but still hot, I’ve got a headache going right now still.
So after the first day of usage of the GoPro Wi-Fi Back I have mixed feelings of it so far. When it works, it’s great, but I seem to be experiencing some struggles. First off was the remote fob battery was almost dead even though I swear I had charged it the day before. Luckily the USB on my car stereo can charge it, although the controls act a little funny when the remote is plugged in, I guess it’s a combination that isn’t expected to be used. The number one problem I’m encountering is loss of wifi connection. The supposed ideal range is 600 feet, I was no where near that far and losing connection. There was a portion in video where you can hear me comment “hello” and pick up the camera before connection was reestablished and the camera turned off. I’m going to have to get in touch with GoPro about this, it seems really bad.
Oops, at Shirokiya as special vendor is Usagiya, here until tomorrow, the 17th. A wagashiya from Tokyo they are known for dorayaki. Wagashi is traditional Japanese confections, manju would be an example that most people here would be familiar with. Easiest way to describe dorayaki is an anko pancake sandwich. Tsubu an usually, which is a sweet paste filling made from the red azuki bean. Tsubu-an includes whole or partially whole beans, unfiltered an, if you will. The “pancakes” are a finer texture and sweeter than pancakes we would be used to. If anything the closest comparison I could make is pancakes made from castella cake. The track on my GPS from yesterday wandering around in Roppongi, Shibuya, and Azabu looking for art museums while avoiding the suspicious glances of the high keisatsu presence looking for one of the fugitive Aum guys looks like a hanamaru mark. My tacti-geek TAD/Patagucci/Scarpa kit kept me comfortable in the heat though. It’s 90% chance of rain today, and 20C (Chris, I wish I had those softshell pants today!). My darned email gateway won’t let me through on this network for some reason – I’ll have to d!ck around with it later – but now it’s time to find breakfast.
Off to Tokyo this evening on Hawaiian Airlines. I get to see how their new Airbus equipment is like.
The belt clip broke on my Otterbox Defender case for my phone so the last few weeks I’ve been living with sticking my phone in pocket, which has been a pain. I poked around to see what was available now in ruggedized iphone cases and came across this. The Lifeproof case is touted as water, dirt, snow and shock proof. The waterproof kind of means the next two “proofs” are a given. What is nice is the surprisingly slim profile of this case. It’s actually thinner than the Otterbox and about the same in other dimensions except length! Continue reading ‘Lifeproof Iphone 4 Case’
