Yesterday was shopping day. Visited Yodobashi & Bic cameras. Japan seems to be big on ions, ion air cleaner like in our room, ion ray gun hair dryer in our bathroom, ion flat screen. Found an awesome kids picture book for J, I’d read it to my kids if I ever had any, “Fun Fun Fu—n!”
looking at video discs, I can’t see how otaku here do it, single discs in the 6,000 yen range? We’re talking over $60 often for single episode discs?
Lunch break was awesome shio ramen in the ramen yokocho in department store. Name slips me at moment, Dave can fill you in. Broth actually not heavy, very tasty. The soft boiled egg perfect and heavenly.
People talk about Japan being expensive, honestly it’s been in line with Hawaii. We’ve been eating on the cheaper side I suppose, but the qualitys been great, even at the convini. Portion sizes are more appropriate, unlike the ridiculous dinners in Salt Lake City.
More shopping in Daimaru depato, food floor puts Shirokiya to shame. The bento and foodstuffs all look awesome. The traffic is so high that you’ll get freshly made stuff.
Stop at Mister Donut for treats & tomorrow’s breakfast. Return to hotel.
After a breather head out for dinner. Ask at the concierge desk about Indian restaurants close by. Seems the one I went to last time is gone. After some searching he was able to locate another that I couldn’t with English searching. Called Krishna and was located only a couple blocks away, bonus in the chika so we won’t need to even venture to the surface world! He calls to confirm their location and hours.
I must say that the service at this hotel has been impeccable. And yes I’m infatuated by the cute little porter girls in the uniforms. It’s seems a little odd to have them being the ones to wrangle all the big bags, but they are awesome!
We find the restaurant no problem. There’s only three people inside. We see an indian dude working. We’re here, we go in. Turns out the Indian dude is it, it’s a one man operation.
We order papadum, dahl, butter chicken, naan, and King Fisher beer.
The beer is a clear yellow, light head, pretty strong hop aroma and skunky ness. I like it better than Heineken, but it’s pretty similar. The papadum had one underdone spot and some slightly burnt ones, but it was otherwise fine. No dipping goodies though.
It seems monster naan is the style here. The dahl, & butter chicken are pretty good. Not the best that would illicit wonderful feelings from me, but it was decent. The chicken being bone in was kinda annoying. And didn’t get monster bloat back at the hotel so that was definite plus. The dude wasn’t very upbeat, quite the opposite. Maybe that’s just they way he is? It wasn’t very busy. We got the around 8:30 and left around 9:50, no one else came in. It looked like the place has been around for a bit though, maybe it’s busier earlier?
