Overheard: Asian Face

So while eating dinner at Sachi Sushi in Whistler, we overhear a nearby table taking pictures, culminating in a call for “Asian Face”.  WTF is Asian Face anyways?  FTP!

Your loading sucks!

So here we are having gone around the airport one lap. Apparently they overloaded the plane and some people and their stuff need to get off.

Just swell. At least the seats don’t totally suck.

RMI Ingenuity

This is how they quarry for aggregate in the Marshall Islands. I’m pretty sure this is why good things turn into scrap metal almost immediately here. On the long road, there are numerous Cat and other excavator carcasses lying about.

Overheard: Kailua Beach

So a young woman, born and raised in Kailua is walking along the beach with her dog, and a pigmentally challenged individual says, “Hey, what are you doing here? Locals aren’t allowed here!”

. o O ???

Overheard: Majuro

Overheard at potentially the best hotel/restaurant in Majuro:

Guy A: Did you get that rat yet?
Guy B: Which rat?
Guy A: The one running around the kitchen.

Hmm, this cant be good. Then I heard rumours of the staff getting a $5 bonus for each rat dispatched after hours.

Coreshot 2

Ugh.  Snowbird left me a present too.

coreshot2 before coreshot2 after

This time I was in a hurry, so the patch is pretty caveman.

Coreshot

Ugh.  Although it was fun at Snowbasin, I took a coreshot from running over a obscured or hidden rock.

Coreshot!

Coreshot!

Luckily, I had the stuff to do a field repair, just had to go buy a lighter from the store.

Fixed!

Ready for action again!

How much for a pack of Double A Batteries?

bannersSo after a pretty good day at Brighton, we decided to take a visit to Park City to check out that area.  We arrive to find that the Window price is $50, thats 30% off the regular price, what a bargain!

Well, maybe.

groom

I guess this sign should have been a sign.  But we came all this way, might as well check it out right?

There are only 2 lifts open, so we pick the highspeed 6-pack and take stock of the conditions

Hmm, this isnt looking so good, but we’re still optimistic, right up until we hit the top of this lift.

bummers

OMG!  Okay, we’re here, we’ve gotta check it out.  Yeah, this one “groomer” is made of concrete-hard icy stuff.  No off-piste opportunity to be found.

I dont think we even needed the map at this point, there was really only one way down.

Bits of a terrain park are open too, but its fairly big stuff.  At least these guys are having fun

After pounding the “groomers” a few times, its about time for lunch.  I gotta say the rice with this chicken quesadilla was really really good.  But the Draft Beer guy didnt get setup with beer yet!  I had my hopes up after seeing his sign!

lunch

After lunch, Root decides his spine needs a rest, so goes off to look for a locker.  I feel a disturbance in the force, and he appears shortly later exclaiming, “How much for a pack of double-a batteries?!” (as quoted from Falling Down) Apparently it cost $7 to rent a day locker!

The value for my $50 lift ticket was poor.  Lunch was generally good, but kind of spendy, but not having the beer really puts a dent into whatever value was there.  The $7 lockers was really over the top!

I might give Park City another chance during the prime season since the gelande seems pretty big, but the early season gets 2 out of 5 fist raising, power fighting monkeys.  And it gets the 2 because the rice was that good.

Laie Point

On the way to Kahuku last night, just as the Foodland came into view in Laie, I mumbled “Isnt Laie Point around here?”  Dave suddenly exclaimed “TURN HERE!”  So I slammed on the brake, probably freaking the heck out of the pickup truck behind me, and jammed into the right turn leading to Laie Point.

Dave apparently has never been here, the subject of much discussion, and source of one of our favorite movie quotes.  “Dis is Laie Point.  Its so beautiful.  Its my home”.

Sweet Home Café

Word of a new Taiwan Style hot pot restaurant had been circulating around for a while, so after reading and deliberating, and schedule making, I rounded up some of my eating buddies (K and J) to go check it out a few months back.  We found it to be very economical, and every left with a Euphoric Sense of Well Being™.  Unfortunately that time noone had a good camera with them.  We finally managed to get everyone back together again for another visit this evening
