Spinning Circles in Azabu

The track on my GPS from yesterday wandering around in Roppongi, Shibuya, and Azabu looking for art museums while avoiding the suspicious glances of the high keisatsu presence looking for one of the fugitive Aum guys looks like a hanamaru mark.  My tacti-geek TAD/Patagucci/Scarpa kit kept me comfortable in the heat though.  It’s 90% chance of rain today, and 20C (Chris, I wish I had those softshell pants today!).  My darned email gateway won’t let me through on this network for some reason – I’ll have to d!ck around with it later – but now it’s time to find breakfast.

HND-Bound

Off to Tokyo this evening on Hawaiian Airlines.  I get to see how their new Airbus equipment is like.

Mariner’s Ridge Yet Again

Sunday, 09 June 2012

Chris, Dave, and Root hike Mariner’s at night, though not on a full moon.

Pomposity

It’s pretty difficult starting a sentence with, “so I was listening to NPR this morning…” and not come off sounding pompous.  Both Fabio and I are guilty of this!

Mamaya Hatogarashi Musubi (Onigiri)

I’ll sometimes grab a salmon-on-multi-grain-rice onigiri from Mamaya on Shirokiya’s second level for a snack after work on days I linger in town instead of going straight home. Today, they had something new – Hatogarashi onigiri. The English translation on the label said “seasoned redpepper [sic] leaf” so I gave it a try. The flavor was similar to a takana onigiri, but with a hint of smokiness, and maybe the suggestion of tea. The rice was seasoned, so was slightly tan, and also had shiro goma (white sesame seeds) mixed in. With that whole pepper leaf thing going on, there was a light capsicum burn in the aftertaste. Very good. Continue reading ‘Mamaya Hatogarashi Musubi (Onigiri)’

June Patches

Dave at Mojo Tactical actually got these in at the end of May, but I didn’t get in there until this past Friday.  This Weyland Corporation patch from Orca Industries in desert colorway references the early iteration of the sinister company in the Alien/Predator/Prometheus canon.  From Aliens on, it’s the post-merger Weyland-Yutani Corporation, so this is from the Alien versus Predator to Alien timeline (which Prometheus falls in the middle of).  Again, like most of Orca’s homespun patches, I don’t know if this is licensed or not.  Still cool though.  Patch measures 3″ x 1″.  The hook-and-loop backing on this one isn’t as tenacious as it should be, especially at the acute top corners.  Wear yours to the movie premiere!

$8 USD plus sales tax.

Random – Ted Says, “Watch Your Step”

Did they just cut-and-paste the face from the wanted poster sketch of Ted Kaczynski?  Even if that’s not the case, the character is still quite creepy.

How Not to Transport Pallets

Yes. He really did drive away like this – probably even got onto the freeway too.  After staring at it for a while, he eventually did put one sad 1” ratcheting tie-down strap around the stack (widthways with respect to the truck).

Slumber Party?

Really, WTF kind of a name for a kid’s bike is “slumber party”? Like what is that supposed to mean in this context? Are they saying this bike is a one-way ticket to a dirt nap? You know things are bad when the company importing horrible death-machine bikes from the PRC even gives up naming their products and relinquishes control to the non-English-speaking Chinese product manager to name with random non-sequitur English words and phrases. I think this bike is from the same company that brings us the “Catapult” dual-suspension “mountain bike” (that’s in quotes because it really isn’t one).

May Patches

Dave at Mojo Tactical just got these in last Friday amongst a few others. Ckucke told me at lunch today that Dave told him to tell me that he got even more patches today, including Weyland Corp and more Hello Kitty patches! Check out the Mojo Tactical Facebook storefront to see what’s available.
