Happy New Year!

New Year 2010 fireworksHope last year went well for everyone out there, and that this year goes even better!

I’ve been working on the 2010 SNM wallpaper image, but I don’t have it finished yet.  Hopefully I can get it done before I fly up to Vancouver next week, but I still have some snowboard repairs, waxing, packing and some household plumbing tasks to perform, so keep your fingers crossed!  It’s quite wonderful, and distinct from last year’s one.

In the meantime, ride safe, and I’ll see you out there in the snow and on the trails!

Monster Mash Opening Reception

Here are some pictures of the opening reception of the Monster Mash show at Chinatown Boardroom last Thursday.  There were a good number of pieces sold on opening night.  The show will run through Halloween, so go by and check it out if your’e in the area!  Thanks to everyone who made it down.  Jackie did an amazing job hanging the show solo and stenciling the walls around the paintings.

Monster Mash

Monster_Mash_thumbnailI’m part of a group art show, “Monster Mash,” at Chinatown Boardroom this coming month. The opening reception is this Thursday, 01 October 2009, from 18:00 to 20:00. The show runs through Halloween. Come by and check it out and say, “hi!” If you can’t make it by for the opening, gallery hours are normally Tuesday-Saturday, 11:00-16:00.

Kawaii-Kowai

Cade Roster and Ryan Higa are part of the “manga-inspired” group art show, Kawaii-Kowai at fishcake opening this evening. The opening festivities run from 18:00 – 20:00. Fishcake isn’t really a gallery per se, maybe more of a furnishing/interior decor store, but they deal in art pieces too. Check it out if you’re in the area!

Bus Stop Culture

Heading over to Cedar Street Gallery after work to check out Jason Teraoka’s works in the 14-artist group show “Bus Stop Culture”. I wonder what he painted? Hopefully I can find parking down there… Wonder if the Gelato shop next door will be open? Continue reading ‘Bus Stop Culture’

Jumping Flea

Chinatown Boardroom will be hosting a group art show by local artists featuring various turns on the traditional ‘ukulele  opening at 18:00 tonight.  Fabio and I will head down after work to check it out.  Included will  be artists Cade Roster, Jason Teraoka, Tracy Gunn (Mrs. JT), Kris Higa, Kandi Everett, and many more!  Hope to see y’all down there.  The show will run from tonight through the 25th.  Gallery hours are normally Thursday through Saturday, 11:00-16:00.

Here are some pictures from opening night

Homesick

If you happen to be in the Seattle area, Jason Teraoka will be having a solo art show, “Homesick,” at the James Harris Gallery. If you’ve seen his works before, the imagery of people bearing their internal conflicts and experiences as expressions on their faces will be familiar. From the sample images that JT showed me, there are some nice and interesting uses of color and light in this new crop of paintings that I really like. When I told him that I liked his use of impressionistic color and chiaroscuro, I was surprised that he didn’t call me a pompous ass! The show opens tomorrow night at 18:00 and runs through 28 March 2009. Check it out if you’re in the area! Continue reading ‘Homesick’

Got “F”?

Cade Roster’s Cade Roster puts the “F” in “Fine Art” show opens at Chinatown Boardroom tonight at 18:00. The show will run thru the 27th, so go check it out! The gallery’s normal hours are Tuesday thru Saturday, 11:00-16:00. From the info I have received so far, he’s painted on skateboard decks, so this might be your chance to get some sweet custom wood by a great local artist.

Stay tuned for some highlights from the show…

Go Team SNM!

Not a bad showing by the SNM boys!

I think this is the second time I ever got money for photos. Good for some beer money, or 1% toward the Canon 5DmkII.

Bizarre Bazaar

Stopped by Chinatown Boardroom yesterday on the way home for the opening of the group art show “Bizarre Bazaar”. Jackie and Eric greeted me and invited me to take a look at the pieces. I haven’t been around in a while, so it was nice that they still recognized me. There were some interesting works, notably Kris Higa’s cute yet disturbing comic art piece, Kandi Everett’s wonderful watercolor, and Maile Yawata’s ceramic pieces. Otto had a framed 3D multimedia piece, and Hal Lum had a smaller, dark work set in a deep frame – a lot different than the pieces he had shown at the downtown TCMHI gallery last year. My cousin John Koga was present with a gilded plaster piece, and a framed, fleshtoned foray into the booby theme that has haunted some of his past works. There were some interesting ink-line on painted background pieces toward the back right of the shop, but I can’t recall who did them. Continue reading ‘Bizarre Bazaar’
