It must have something to do with the demographic of people who work in or around Waterfront Plaza, but I’ve seen multiple people now making left turns off of Punchbowl heading there turn into the ONCOMING lane of traffic because there were pedestrians in the crosswalk in the lane they wanted to turn into. This is more than the lazy wristed people who cut the turn because their ineffectual girly arms aren’t effective at turning the steering wheel more than a quarter turn – this is a conscious effort to intentionally drive in the wrong lane.
(0)Seems like the Prius has replaced the Golf as the a-hole’s car of choice. I’ve seen a Prius C and several Gen2 Priuses cutting in and out of traffic and going full bore off the changing traffic signal this week.
(0)They’ve been playing a current ELT single on KORL. I’m guessing that it’s still Mochida Kaori and not some new girl, but her voice is up an octive with a little warble on low notes like she’s trying to “cuten up” her voice by making it high. How old is she now?
(0)The end is nigh, unless the incoming equipment for my flight tomorrow gets rerouted due to weather conditions. Supposedly the near-typhoon level winds are supposed to subside a little tomorrow, but you never know. Time to drink my Silk Yebisu and take the bindings off my board as the wind roars around the building, and the doors and windows breathe in and out like something out of a horror movie. I swear the winds in town today are at least 150% as strong as the wind that shut down Kokusai yesterday. I literally got blown across a sidewalk and into a bollard and hedge. Luckily it wasn’t that cold, as that would have made the whipping snow much more needle-like, though the warmth put the streets and sidewalks right in that ultimate danger range of 0C to 2C where things are at their slipperiest. I’ve seen it worse in town, like where you have to use the bootpack to not get stuck in the thigh-deep snowdrift that was once a sidewalk.
the pretty boy thing in Japan seems to be growing pretty strong. There’s been more than a few times where I’ve been wondering, was that a dude or a chick?
If Roy were living in Japan, is this him?
I can forgive Yebisu from teaming up with a Frenchman instead of a German for a collaboration beer, since this is so wonderful. I didn’t really read the full version that carefully on their website, but using French barley from the Champagne region and premium New Zealand hops from the wine producing Nelson region, Yebisu with brewmaster Joel Robuchon aimed to produce a “champagne of beers”. The heavier carbonation definitely evokes champagne, but if you didn’t know all the backstory, all you would think is that this is a rich, full-flavored beer with a bitter bent. The decoction is strong, so the medium-dark malt color and flavor definitely comes through. The hops are more on the bittering side, but there is still a hint of flowery. There is nothing defining whether this is an ale or lager, but I’d venture a guess that it’s a lager.
The four other trees at the rise along California Avenue are still looking as dead as two weekends ago, but the tree at the corner of California and Karsten Drive (the second left part of Karsten) is in its full glory. Most of the other trees are sending out new leaves as their blooms dwindle. Sorry, didn’t have a camera, so no pictures.
