Dammit, since I was working on all this site re-organizasion, I completely forgot to Fight The Power and take the time to remember Mr Chin, on June 23.

Dont forget to take the time to remember the thousands that died this day in 1989 fighting for freedom.
JT was out sick and Chris was “baking brownies” (is that some kind of euphemism for something?), so they missed this Sunday’s ride. Considering the heavy sweating they had to endure on last week’s ride, this one would have put them over the top. The skies were overcast, and the forecast return of the Easterlies did not come to pass. Dr. Paul joined Jeff, Sara, Ckucke, Root, and me for the humid torment. The Albizia trees were still going off, so my allergies fired up immediately. We did the enhanced loop like last week, but futzed around a little more on the upper Kalanianaole side – mostly climbing up to the view points and backtracking. Nobody wanted to go “down” anything because of the prospect of climbing back up. The cardiac arrest climb was as heinous as usual, but it didn’t feel like I was literally going to die at the top like last time. Root got a service call from his job while we were recovering at the tree. It was that kaiten sushi chain asking, “how come we can’t print?” We dropped back down to the ditch via the flailing fat guy singletrack, and did the inner loop and side loop. Describing the kind of person who repeatedly parks his private vehicle in a hospital loading zone is unnecessary – his actions speak loudly enough to define his personality and moral fiber. Even then, his choice of vehicle brand and the hey, look at me religion-as-fashion/advertising die-cuts underscore this point even more.
Hooray! Christmas has past and 101.1 FM has ceased playing horrible xmas music all day. Back to natsukashii J-pop…
Every year when Easter or Christmas rolls around, the documentary channels up in the 70’s run all these “History of [insert Biblical name here]” or “The Science of [insert Biblical occurrence here]” programs.
This isn’t HISTORY – it is DOGMA. Having these kinds of programs on seemingly “objective”, “scientific” networks lends credence to the assertion that the people or events involved are factual. This is brainwashing through habituation.
I ran into these on both the National Geographic Channel and The History Channel this weekend. Give us natural history documenaries and war documentaries (respectively), not Christian demagogue!

There are a surprising number of Japanese-themed restaurants in Kaneohe. I say “themed” because in general, they serve Americanized or “Local”-ized fare and not authentic, traditional Japanese cuisine. Maybe I’m also being a racist, since so far all of the ones that I have tried in Kaneohe have been run by ethnic Koreans. That’s not to say Koreans can’t make good food – they make terriffic food: I’m saying the restaurants in question don’t produce acceptable approximations of Nihon-ryouri. It’s picture-book cooking – it looks like it’s supposed to, but doesn’t taste exactly like it’s supposed to. It’s like those science fiction shows where aliens build soul-less, substance-less copies of earth cities, then populate them with kidnapped earthlings and assume the humans will not notice they aren’t at home anymore. Hmm, so today is the 18th Birthday of the Panchen Lama, who was “spirited away” by chinese agents 12 years ago. (The Panchen Lama is the 2nd most important figure in Tantric Buddhism, after the Dalai Lama; and hes been in exile since 1959) I wonder if they’ll let him out now; or continue the charade of “having private schooling in beijing”
Also, dont forget the Dalai Lama is on Maui today, check out the webcast here
