Neglected to blog about changing a torn CV boot on the rally FX a couple weeks ago. At the time it seemed a minor thing. Turns out it wasn’t. It looks like it was torn because the joint was extending past where it should, and today in my seventh balls out run, the joint popped. After the event we pushed it to the pit area and I was hoping maybe to just pop it back together. No such luck, all the big balls in the joint were gone. Sigh, looks like another call to the tow truck! At least its an easy repair, if I can find the part! And again while it was working, the FX was posting awesome times. To add insult to injury, or rather injury to the insult, I jammed my right index finger into the steering wheel again. The knuckle is now inflamed and sore.

Been testing the neighbor’s good will the past few days, been working on fixing the rally FX. Here’s the failure. Drew up plans for plates to repair those flanges. My thought was to cut them out and weld the plates in. Took the plans to Universal on thursday and they had them donr friday, but with work and traffic I could get there in time to pick them up. In the meantime I thought about the repair some more. I decided that my initial plan put too much at stake on my skills at welding and fabricating to line everything up and make it strong. The plan now was to weld the plates on the side of the existing flanges. There’s no clearance issues and I’d just have to source longer bolts. Continue reading ‘Grind em’
Seeing on new Subarus, pzev, partial zero emissions vehicle. WTH is that?! All my vehicles are pzevs, at this very moment they are not producing any emissions!
(2)So the new rally tires and rims are making a big difference. Two events ago went well, but I ran into power problems. It turns out that the wiring harness for the air flow meter got chafed and wires were shorting. My results were good, I was once again running even with my rival in the FF class until mechanicals took him out. In the time between, I taped up the wires and then discovered one of the CV boots had a tear. Since ride got rained I’ll rant instead. Did it not occur to these runners on Diamond Head that black outfits at night is NOT a good idea?
(0)I’m getting a free reggae/”Jawaiian” concert sitting here in my room. It seems Natural Vibrations is playing a concert at the Kaiser High football field. Seems the weather is holding out for them. The forecast unstable weather with heavy showers has for the most part missed us here.
(0)Driving into work this morning, a spate of non-signalers drove me nuts that I started keeping count. When I first started instances of signalers during an event that require them, I was at 1 out of 10. By the time I got to work the sample size got bigger and things evened out a bit, 37 signals out of 63. So guess it was more than 50%, but not much.

Forgot to post up monku Monday rant. How lazy are people?! Pulled into stall at Foodland when an errant shopping cart came rolling toward the car. Had enough time to reverse out of the way, jump out and catch the cart and take it 20 yards to the cart return station.
How annoying are people?! Going home on Kal Hwy after, Tacoma in right lane I’m in middle. There is no one behind us for at least a quarter mile. He speeds up to cut in front of me, no signal, cuts into the next left, no signal, then cuts into the left turn lane, no signal, and has to stop to wait for the turn light.
