I don’t know what insane bug got in my butt. I’m sitting here on the sidewalk 3/4 of the way up St. Louis Heights at 9:40am on a Saturday! I took the FRS in for service for some issues so I decided to ride my bike up St Louis. Geared up with all my video stuff. It’s quite beautiful weather, but on the flip side hot. The bus passed me when I was at the bottom of the hill, I should have caught it.

It had come up in conversation with our resident Kauai expat this Goteborg musubi. What’s that, we all asked? Seems to be a Kauai thing, SPAM wasn’t good enough for them. They had to get all hoity toity and use some exotic euro preserved meat. Although what you find will most likely be a Hormel product, the same as SPAM. On some quick investigation it turns out that the sausage is a dry salami type sausage from Sweden. Who knows exactly how/when it came to be a local musubi ingredient, just as SPAM has. Perhaps as consequence of the size of the slices, or more likely just because the Atooi wanted to different, the meat is placed on the bottom of the musubi as opposed to the traditional SPAM on top. 1 hour 15 minutes later I’m finally in the airport bar pounding a .5l draft Hoegarten. Guess that makes up for some of it, and the fact they stopped carrying Guinness.
Da fak?! Is the self service terminals all broken? The screens are up but no one is using them, good thing I’m an hour and 40 minutes early!
So I wonder if this has anything to do with my little friend who greeted me on the floor of the washroom yesterday.
So much for all the doom and gloom, here at home the tropical storm Flossie is now a depression, and is causing some showers. The wind has actually died down and its just icky. Seeing some flashes of lightning. We had heavier rains a few weeks ago. Oh, a little rumble, and a little more rain just started. I hear there’s another system developing in the same area, it’s Gil! Que screechy flute and wrestling shoed minions, dark! Dark!

Forgot to mention, last week at Marukai they had a Okinawa food thing going. Among the items was this, Shima Togarashi. Ingredients list on English label is chili pepper and sake lees. Haven’t had a chance to try it yet, dunno how close it is to the togarshi awamori.
