Yeah yeah, what the heck was I doing waiting until the day before leaving for trip to set up new bindings. Well, they’re newer year of the same model I currently run, the Flow Teams and there are no changes to the geometry. Just have to match up settings and should be good to go. Right. So two days before departure I finally tried to setup the new bindings to discover new fastners. While I’m glad Flow listened and did something about the tendancy of their previous fastners to work loose, this was ridiculous. Continue reading ‘Chine?!’

No, I really don’t know. If you know what bread pudding is like, it’s that kind of pudding – not the “wet†kind. If you’re really that curious, go hit up Wikipedia for more information.
Bathroom deodorizers really shouldn’t be scented to emulate edible products. Before spraying, the bathroom smelled like shit. After spraying this, it smelled like berries… and shit. Now when I smell berries, I’ll think of feces. In all honesty, it didn’t really smell like berries: It was more of an excessively strong potpourri scent. The scent is strong in an attempt to load your smell receptors so the poop smell molecules can’t find a home, but the net effect ends up just being additive instead of masking.
I dropped by Target in Kapolei for some small items from the pharmacy. They had neither the simple breath strips nor the esoteric traumatic bleeding clotting agent that I was looking for. While looking at their selection of bandaging tape, I took a look at their in-house brand. Unlike the in-house Long’s/CVS stuff, the Target stuff was made in The PRC. No, there really is no way I’m going to buy medical-related supplies, of all things, from China. Sorry!
(0)Alright guys, you need to give the people in the packing department more material and stop skimping. This is the second package of high dollar fairly sensitive electronic and optical equipment I ordered from them that arrived with inadequate packing. Is the risk and return rate worth the savings in material? Sheesh! When I picked up the box and did the tilt test, I already could tell they had done it again, hearing the item inside sliding around freely. They were lucky with this one, Panasonic’s OEM packaging for this lens was fairly minimal. I am going to yet again write a negative feedback on packing to Amazon, this time probably more scathing than my previous one. Lemme dig up my pic for that one….
Ah, here we go, the camera had some fairly robust OEM packaging, but still…. It bugs me. Both pieces of equipment appear to have survived intact and fine, but really, a big name mail order business like this really should take more care in their packing. Even a monkey could have packed these better!
Chris had free time on Saturday, and the weather was outstanding, so he and I met Root and Ckucke out at the Ditch. Jeff and Sara were out on the water, and JT was working, so it was just the four of us. Although the sky was perfectly blue, the ground was still damp from rains on New Year’s Eve. We figured our best bet would be to stay up high, so we climbed Government Road and took the Demon Trail all the way to Pube Tree. Demon Trail was slightly damp, but no worse than usual. The further extent was a little grown in with invasive weeds. Continue reading ‘First Dirt of 2010’
The New Year in Hawaii means interesting seasonal entertainment from Japan on KIKU-TV. The general worldwide economic downturn has been reflected in this annual spectacle in more austere sets and decreased use of expensive shots like the helicopter fly-in on ELT on a rooftop stage at the opening many years back. The talent level has remained fairly consistent through the years, so the enjoyment level has remained pretty much the same. Here are some reflections on this year: Continue reading ‘2010 60th Annual NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen’
This morning, a bunch of non-local news trucks and camera crews were camped out in front of the State office building on Punchbowl, aiming their cameras at Queen’s. Really folks, anything having to do with Rush is not news. Does anyone else find it ironic or hypocritical that he’s spending his cash for a vacation in a blue state? It would be even moreso if the Kahala Hotel and Resort was foreign-owned…
(0)This cracks me up! This reply to one of Root’s AE86 or FX16 threads was so funny that I had to let y’all see it:
Intimately, the post is really the sweetest on this worthy topic. I concur with your conclusions and will thirstily look forward to your upcoming updates. Saying thanks will not just be enough, for the fantasti c clarity in your writing. I will directly grab your rss feed to stay abreast of any updates. Fabulous work and much success in your business enterprise!
Everybody, please don’t panic!
OK, I’m officially super annoyed at the neighbors on the T street from us. Having the second house tell me not to park directly across from their drive way because it makes it hard for them to back out and they might hit my car. Now who’s fault is it if they do? I’m parked in a perfectly legal spot on a public street, and it’s across from their house, not blocking their view to pull out into street. I park in the spot I do because other idiots don’t know how to drive and cut the corner then swing wide and cream parked FX’s there. I barely contained my urge to say “No, this is a public street, this is a perfectly legal parking spot, you shouldn’t be driving if you can’t back out of your driveway without hitting a parked car on the opposite side of the street, I’m parking here.” WTF! If I were really pissy, I’d get all the vehicles running, I’d park the FJ40 on their side of the street in the space between the two houses who complained to me (and Fabio), and then park the FX directly across the first driveway, and the AE86 directly across the second driveway. See how they like a seven foot tall box blocking their view, and then deal with their poor driving skill getting out of their driveways. Aaarg! Learn to drive, people! But no, I need to live with these neighbors.
Even more reason to get the FJ55 Pig out of the garage and the FX16 carcass out of the driveway so don’t have to park on the street. Which BTW, miracles of miraceles, guy is coming this week to start process of taking the FJ55 away.
OK, I can tell I’m annoyed, I cooked dinner & ate, had some sake, and I’m still annoyed enough that I went out & took a pic. Take a look at this. If you can’t get out of your driveway from house on left onto this street, something is wrong with you. When you are issued a driver’s liscence, that is supposed to certify that you have the basic skill and ability to operate an automobile safely and with competance on public road conditions. If you lack the skill and ability, you should not have said liscence.
