Amazon thinks Hawaii isnt a state?

Dear Amazon, Can you tell me why your ASIN B00007GQLS cannot be shipped to Hawaii?

Thank you for writing to Amazon.com.

We are in the process of expanding the types of items that we are able to export to our customers living in U.S. territories, but at this time we cannot ship Camera & Photo products to U.S. territories.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

WTF! Dont you people know that Hawaii has been a state for 49 years!?

Thanks Amazon. Although you have free shipping, you are still IDIOTS!

Good Riddance

Gone?

Gone is the white Ford Ranger pickup covered in obnoxious honu and Hinano girl die-cuts parked in front of my house.

Gone.

Gone is the wafting stink of stale cigarettes at all hours.

Gone!

The Emphysema woman next door is gone!

Some time last week, she packed up her krapp and got the heck out of Dodge. Now I don’t know if she moved closer to the hack charter school in Kailua that employed her, or if she fled back to the Big Island from whence she came – frankly I don’t effin care! I just am glad that I will no longer be awakened at midnight, 02:00, and 04:00 like clockwork when she chronically went outside to light up in their side yard just outside my bedroom window! Just in time for summer too – I would hate to have to go through one more weekend with her lighting up every hour or two and have to close the windows in this heat.

Good-bye you fat chain-smoking bitch! I hope I never see you again!

Let’s the Translating!

Huh? What?

This container has been sitting on the kitchen counter for over a week, but in the morning fog, I never noticed the label beyond the bold print. I caught the “Japanese character…” part and was getting ready to Fight the Power. What are they going to say about the character of the Japanese People? Oh… okay… wait…

Huh? What?

Attempting to rationalize the text and try to figure out what was going through the mind of the copy writer would really take away from the bizarre humor of the label. I would venture a guess that this product was originally made in the PRC to be sold in Japan. The US distributor who is probably loosely associated with the Japanese distributor probably approached the PRC factory to produce the same product for the USDM with an English label. Someone at the US distributor told the PRC manufacturer, “just put English where the kanji on the label is,” and instead of just Romanization, they got exposition.

Forgotten FTP!

Dammit, since I was working on all this site re-organizasion, I completely forgot to Fight The Power and take the time to remember Mr Chin, on June 23.

Quality Is Job One

Da buggah stay crooked, cuzI was sitting in back of a new Jaguar XF the other day in Kalihi of all places. I immediately noticed that the shiny boot (trunk) lid was offset and skewed in the opening – to be precise, the gap between left and right was unequal, and the right side of the lid sat 3-4mm above the adjacent fender.

This vehicle definitely wouldn’t pass the ‘ball bearing test” from the 1980’s Nissan/Datsun TV commercials.

Pretty slick looking car though.  Too bad the coachbuilding workmanship is so poor.  Looks like it probably costs all the money and gets terrible fuel mileage.

Thank You Sir! Can I Have Another?

WTF?

The Albizia trees bloomed toward the end of April.  I’m driving back from Waimanalo Yesterday, and the Albizia trees along Kalanianaole are throwing a new set of flowers!  Do they bloom every two months?  The fallen flower debris from last time is still visible in areas along the Ditch Trail, and the trees are going to go off again!

Get ready for another round of allergies!

“returns must be accompanied by a receipt…”

Fatherhood has changed me in some profound ways; ‘cute’ is now part of my vocabulary and I use it on a regular basis. I talk to people with babies. And like it. Other people come up to me and talk to me about “The Kid” and their kids and what not. On Sunday at Costco I had an oba-san walk alongside of me, coo’ing at “The Kid” to get him back to sleep as I tried to hide from the horde. I have developed more empathy for kids and parents and hot moms.

Am I lost? Was what made ‘me’ me gone? So you have to imagine my glee when I felt the return of the hate the other night at the shop. Know that feeling when you first step barefoot into mud? The hate is sorta like that wet, squishy sensation that makes a lot of sucking noises that you grow to like once you realize it’s warm and it’ll get all over everything and it’ll hide you from the Predator monster till you can gather your strength to go mano y mano with it. Electric Gremlins

Ugh. Time to try and figure out what’s going on with the starter on the FX. A while back I was having chronic hot start problems, or so I thought. Went through a bit of work to put new starter on the opposite side of the engine away from the exhaust. Seems to have been okay for a while, but a couple weeks back I had yet another instance of non-start with hot engine. Popping the hood and waiting for twenty minutes or so seemed to fix it. Then a couple days ago it happened in the morning with totally cold engine. WTF? I twidled with some of the wiring in the engine bay. It eventually started and I drove to work. Didn’t have problems with it throughout the day, then in the evening after hanging out at Collector Maniac the boys were going to eat at FTP tiki burgers at Ala Moana. Damn it, the starter won’t go. Tried popping hood and let things cool more, twidled with wiring, noticed the starter solenoid wire has a rat bite in it, but all to no avail. Luckily I was parallel parked on the street pointing downhill, so just letting the brake out let me easily roll into the street and gain momentum to do a bump start. Phoned the boys I would be heading straight home. Continue reading ‘Electric Gremlins’

Remember 64

Dont forget to take the time to remember the thousands that died this day in 1989 fighting for freedom.

Vile Fluid

I feel insulted – insulted that I am sitting here writing this instead of doing any of a bunch of things that I really should be doing right now. The shock I had at dinner compels me to share the experience, so here it is. Am I being altruistic or just plain angry? You decide.

I had dinner at the Windward Mall franchise of I Love Country Café. In ages past, I remember going to other franchises of this local chain for wholesome and healthy, albeit expensive (think current Zippy’s prices over 8-years ago), fare. Root will surely remember going there with Vern after evening bike rides from when the first one opened on Pi’ikoi. Breakfast was always at the Kahala one after the Honolulu Marathon Escort duty until that part of the mall disappeared to make way for some mainland store. Of all the places in the Windward Mall food court, this looked like a good place, so I stepped up to the plate. With good past experiences and name recognition – what could possibly go wrong? Read on… Continue reading ‘Vile Fluid’
