No Expectations = No Disappointments

Went to E & O Trading Company for the office holiday dinner last night.  Dark with earthy tones and Southeast Asian decor, this trendy Pacific-fusion restaurant takes over the empty space between Compadres’ and Borders at Ward Center once occupied by Jean-Marie Josselin’s Oahu branch of A Pacific Cafe.  The server was polite and pleasant, but it seemed like the wait staff was overstretched – We would go many minutes without seeing our server on many an occasion.  A brief read of the menu indicated that their culinary lean was toward South and Southeast Asia, with Indian, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese influences.  There were some Chinese and Japanese-inspired menu items tossed in for good measure too. Sticker Shaka

Ho Cuz – wen’ go by Yama’s Fish Market today fo’ get one numba’chree Lau Lau plate, an’, frick – trip me out! Was $9.00 USD wit’ one $0.45USD poi upgrade!  Dat stay $9.94 wit’ tax fo’ dose of youse who no stay get one calcalata’ handy.

WTF?!

The Lau Lau was a little on the dry side today and the poi tasted a little weird (not sour -  I would have liked that actually).  Not up to the standard I’ve come to expect of them – especially at ten bucks!

Unaware

On Monday, I was driving up Punchbowl passing Queen’s, and there were these four people standing below the ER where the parking ramp goes underground.  Big dude, big lady, big daughter, and little grandchild in a stroller.  All four of them were smoking (the two adults and the one underaged teen were actively smoking – the baby was passively smoking).  They really just don’t see it.

“Ho - what wen’ happen to auntie fo’ da’ ambulance go come bring her hea’?”

“Her emphesema stay ack up.”

“How come?”

“Waaa!”

Something like that…

Where the heck are my socks?

Why is it that every time I need my socks I cannot find them?  Its not like I dont have enough socks.  I end up buying socks every time I cant find them.  There should be at least a dozen pairs of techincal socks in my house.

This again lead to a frantic packing session!  I hope I got all of it!  If I missed someting important because of the distraction of hunting madly for socks, I’m gonna be really grouchy.

Car-ma, Bad Wiring is the Enemy

Raining like madness last night. Lay in bed for a while watching the lightning show. Drift off to sleep. Wake up early, weather still rainy, go back to sleep. I wake up again, 9:00 and it’s still looks dark outside. I think this is the first day this year that actually feels like winter. There’s a break in the weather, I eat lunch. I take advantage of the weather and go out to work on the last bit holding back the FX. I swap side mirror. Before I quit yesterday, I swapped the washer motor. It was easier than I thought, but I had to track down the gushing of water out the bottom when I tried the washer. That annoying electric valve for the rear washer which is broken in every FX and is really expensive isn’t just broken, the bottom burst when I tried the washer! Anyway, that’s easily bypassed. Car-ma, De-rice

Shaved markersWhat, the FX have cooties and it needs de-ricing? I suppose you could say that. As I left for work this morning, took a quick look and noticed the rear side markers are gone. They’ve been shaved and bondoed over. Cr*p, I hope they don’t notice when I safety. The tail lights have some side wraparound, but its not reflective. I come home early in hopes of getting enough done tonight that I can safety it tomorrow. So I start on the front turn signals.

Herd of Selfish Cows?

I’ll warn you in advance that this is going to sound mysogynistic…

Very mysogynistic.

At what age do women stop being people and become cows? Continue reading ‘Herd of Selfish Cows?’

How Much for a Pack of 4 AA Batteries?

Stopped by Servco today to pick up a $40 fuel filter for the FJ80.  While I was there,  I asked about the pricing for the gas struts for the liftgate and the bonnet.  They are starting to get a little weak, but still have a little life left in them.  Bonnet struts were about $70 each, and the liftgate ones were about $125 each!  WTF?!  I guess I’ll be looking for 3rd party struts if the time comes to replace them – either that get a $2 broomstick.

Yaris S frontOn my way out, I wandered through the showroom to browse the new ’08 Toyotas.  They had a Yaris S 3-door with all the packages plus some TRD parts going for $19.5K!  WTF?!  I think a ’08 Scion xD goes for below $16K bone-stock, and that already includes most of the stuff that the add-on Yaris packages include.  Granted, that particular Yaris had an A/T to drive up  the price, but still… Put the TRD wheels on the xD for $2K and you’d end up still saving money and get a 1.8-liter 1ZR-FE and a couple of extra doors to boot!

Land of Salt and Torment

Darkness overcomes Dave and CkuckeI was late to the Monday F/R because I was writing crap on some blog and had to stop by the gasoline store so I’d be able to get up St. Louis without running dry.  The crew was sparse – only Ckucke, JT and me, but Pappy swung by the parking lot to make some conversation on his way home to an inconsolably crying child.

It was barely twilight when we got up to the top, but it was nice and cool.  We geared up and rode up to the park.  The weekend rains were all but dried out, so we dropped down through upper and lower dumps, then climbed up agave and did the normal trail out.  Conditions were loose and dusty, especially in the open areas around the hammock-tree and the burnt-out area. Rolling Thunder

Back driving the van this week.

I can go and get coffee whenever I like.

I’ve been listening to that 101.1 MHz Japanese-language radio station that Fabio told me about while driving.  Seems to be somewhat natsukashii programming though…

Today was apparently “Hot local Asian girl” day at Windward Mall.
