{"id":212,"date":"2007-07-17T17:20:28","date_gmt":"2007-07-18T03:20:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.studionewmedia.com\/blog\/2007\/07\/17\/treads\/"},"modified":"2007-07-17T17:20:28","modified_gmt":"2007-07-18T03:20:28","slug":"treads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studionewmedia.com\/blog\/index.php\/2007\/07\/17\/treads\/","title":{"rendered":"Treads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.studionewmedia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/at_1248a.JPG\" title=\"at_1248a.JPG\"><img vspace=\"5\" align=\"left\" src=\"http:\/\/www.studionewmedia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/at_1248a.thumbnail.JPG\" hspace=\"5\" alt=\"at_1248a.JPG\" title=\"at_1248a.JPG\" \/><\/a>Just installed some Michelin <em>Mountain A\/T<\/em> 26 x 2.2 tires on the XC bike.\u00c2\u00a0 They&#8217;re essentially the same tread pattern as the <em>XCR A\/T<\/em> 26 x 2.0 tires that were on there before, but are wider.\u00c2\u00a0 According to specs, these are supposedly 640g each, up from the 560g each for the <em>XCR A\/T<\/em>&#8216;s.\u00c2\u00a0 Both models are folding, have the grey silica dual-compound treads, and\u00c2\u00a0127 tpi casings.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0 The <em>XCR A\/T<\/em>&#8216;s are great tires, but they are narrow.\u00c2\u00a0 They are labeled as &#8220;2.0&#8221;, but set up more like &#8220;1.8&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 Likewise, these <em>Mountain A\/T<\/em>&#8216;s are narrow for their labeled 2.2 size, measuring out at 50mm on <em>Mavic XC 717 disc<\/em> rims (should have measured the actual size of the <em>XCR A\/T<\/em>&#8216;s before I took them off).\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s an excellent tread pattern &#8211; it would be\u00c2\u00a0great to have them in\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;2.4&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.studionewmedia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/at_1249a.JPG\" title=\"at_1249a.JPG\"><img vspace=\"5\" align=\"left\" src=\"http:\/\/www.studionewmedia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/at_1249a.thumbnail.JPG\" hspace=\"5\" alt=\"at_1249a.JPG\" title=\"at_1249a.JPG\" \/><\/a>I&#8217;m hoping for a little more traction and a little more stability with these without gaining a pile of rolling resistance.\u00c2\u00a0 The narrow <em>XCR A\/T<\/em>&#8216;s tend to get a little jumpy in the babyheads, and sink into the walnut-sized crumbly rock we&#8217;ve been seeing at the Waimano mystery zone.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure the transition will be seamless and I won&#8217;t really notice a big difference since they&#8217;re essentially the same tire.\u00c2\u00a0 The <em>Mountain A\/T<\/em>&#8216;s will probably get a neighborhood\u00c2\u00a0test ride or two before going on to Whistler, which will be the acid test.\u00c2\u00a0 The <em>XCR A\/T<\/em>&#8216;s will probably go back on when I get back.<\/p>\n<p>Just a note, they are called out as &#8220;<em>Mountain A\/T<\/em>&#8221; on the Michelin webpage and in most other literature, but the tires themselves are labeled &#8220;<em>Mountain A. T.<\/em>&#8221; on the casing.\u00c2\u00a0 Likewise, the <em>XCR A\/T<\/em> says &#8220;<em>XCR A.
