{"id":30,"date":"2007-04-30T11:33:29","date_gmt":"2007-04-30T21:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.studionewmedia.com\/blog\/2007\/04\/30\/wailuna-to-royal-summit\/"},"modified":"2007-04-30T11:33:29","modified_gmt":"2007-04-30T21:33:29","slug":"wailuna-to-royal-summit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studionewmedia.com\/blog\/index.php\/2007\/04\/30\/wailuna-to-royal-summit\/","title":{"rendered":"Wailuna to Royal Summit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rode Wailuna on Saturday.\u00c2\u00a0 Met Jeff and Sara at 08:30 and it was drizzling.\u00c2\u00a0 The immediate thought was to call it and go home and sleep, but\u00c2\u00a0I didn&#8217;t want to waste the Cytomax and Endurox that I already mixed up.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Root was running late, so by the time he showed, the rain had ceased and the sun was out and drying things out.\u00c2\u00a0 The road climb was not too bad considering the secret training ride\u00c2\u00a0I did the day before, but once on te dirt, my\u00c2\u00a0legs were burning.\u00c2\u00a0 I had to spin granny-ring\u00c2\u00a0on sections that were otherwise mid-ring\u00c2\u00a0climbs.\u00c2\u00a0 Just after the bypass trail junction, Root\u00c2\u00a0got the idea that I should climb a lightning-killed tree for a photo.\u00c2\u00a0 I managed to get up it, but at the expense of pulling the muscle in the front of my shin.\u00c2\u00a0 This would cause me pain for the next 8-miles.<\/p>\n<p>The descent was muddy in spots, but otherwise perfectly tacky.\u00c2\u00a0 At the end of the doubletrack, we descended &#8220;upper paperbark&#8221; to the traverse trail to Newtown, but saw it continue on the other side of the road.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The trail was well worn-in, so after descending a little, we decided to further explore it instead of riding back up to the doubletrack to the\u00c2\u00a0traverse.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The trail was significantly more packed and ridden than when we rode it last year.\u00c2\u00a0 Connecting to\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;lower paperbark&#8221;, we ended up at the\u00c2\u00a0grassy plain.\u00c2\u00a0 A singletrack in the grass that had been run through by a truck caught my eye, and we went down it to explore further.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0We found &#8220;upper front door loop&#8221;, &#8220;lower front door loop&#8221;, and &#8220;back door&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 We rode them in that order, finding ourselves at\u00c2\u00a0the outer powerline road.\u00c2\u00a0 Returning to the grassy\u00c2\u00a0plain, we descended\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;Kerwin&#8217;s trail&#8221; through the stunt valley and out to the street.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0There were lots if\u00c2\u00a0new jumps and a\u00c2\u00a0bridge-to-log stunt\u00c2\u00a0that wasn&#8217;t there last year.\u00c2\u00a0 The built-up section of the\u00c2\u00a0bridge-to-log was\u00c2\u00a0rickety, and the telephone pole section it transitioned to wasn&#8217;t set well, so it rolled laterally under rider weight. \u00c2\u00a0Total ride was\u00c2\u00a010.08-miles with a\u00c2\u00a0trail time of around 3 hours.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Vavr was\u00c2\u00a06mph.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Still don&#8217;t believe Jeff and Sara went surfing after all that&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Root posted pictures already;
