The actress, <em>Hayley Kiyoko Alcroft<\/em> is <em>half-Asian<\/em>, so therefore is also \u00e2\u20ac\u0153half white\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. So what\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the problem? She\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s no <em>more<\/em> Asian than she is white \u00e2\u20ac\u201c why is she being labeled as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153only Asian\u00e2\u20ac\u009d? It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s like a famous American mixed-ethnicity politician being labeled as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153America\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first Black President\u00e2\u20ac\u009d or another mixed-ethnicity professional athlete being identified for only his father\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s race. Do these complainers only see what they consider an \u00e2\u20ac\u0153impurity\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, and not the remaining white side? That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s seriously <em>Third Reich<\/em> thinking. Alcroft performs the role well, regardless of her ethnicity. The show\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s producers were not trying to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Asianify\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the character: They cast the actress that fit the role the best. Period. A syndicated reviewer mentioned the whole \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Asian\u00e2\u20ac\u009d thing and went on to say that she also didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have freckles like the original cartoon character, almost intimating that being Asian was mutually exclusive to having freckles, and therefore made her another level inappropriate.
