{"id":544,"date":"2008-01-02T16:12:27","date_gmt":"2008-01-03T02:12:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.studionewmedia.com\/blog\/2008\/01\/02\/58th-annual-kohaku-uta-gassen\/"},"modified":"2008-01-02T16:12:27","modified_gmt":"2008-01-03T02:12:27","slug":"58th-annual-kohaku-uta-gassen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studionewmedia.com\/blog\/index.php\/2008\/01\/02\/58th-annual-kohaku-uta-gassen\/","title":{"rendered":"58th Annual Kohaku Uta-Gassen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After watching the disappointing first half of the Hawaii-Georgia Sugar Bowl game, I started flipping back and forth to the one-day-late KIKU-TV telecast of the <em>Kohaku Uta-Gassen<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 There wasn&#8217;t anything <em>good<\/em> per-se, but it reinforced some judgements that I had from before:<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>BoA<\/em><\/strong> sucks.\u00c2\u00a0 She can&#8217;t sing live.\u00c2\u00a0 She was way off key.\u00c2\u00a0 The only reason she is popular is because she is a novelty foreigner.\u00c2\u00a0 Her time is long over &#8211; she can go back home and sing off-key in her own language now.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Hamasaki Ayumi<\/em><\/strong> sucks.\u00c2\u00a0 She dresses funny and she is off-key live and recorded.\u00c2\u00a0 She is so bad that they can&#8217;t even fix her pitch digitally in post-production for her CD&#8217;s.\u00c2\u00a0 I guess <em>Ueto <\/em>Aya&#8217;s shelf life has expired, since she wasn&#8217;t there for Ayu to cast invisible daggers at.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Dreams Come True<\/em><\/strong> are technically astounding.\u00c2\u00a0 The singer is really good &#8211; wide vocal range and perfect pitch.\u00c2\u00a0 Too bad their material sucks&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Kouda Kumi<\/em><\/strong> was surprisingly good.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0She was on-key for her entire song, even though it was a unchallenging song with little variation in pitch or melody.\u00c2\u00a0 It was so good, that it almost seemed like she was lip-synching.\u00c2\u00a0 I hadn&#8217;t\u00c2\u00a0expected much from her to begin with, so maybe that explains my pleasant\u00c2\u00a0surprise.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Hello!
