Karneval <\/strong>– Uh, what was this one about? I remember stuff about government agents with supernatural abilities in a somewhat European setting.<\/p>\n root – pastel tinted palette, sparkles, pretty boys with pokey hair that somehow doesn’t poke their eyes out, effeminate main character in search of brother. Run away, now! Looks like they’re trying for broader appeal with it’s action and the BG art, characters and bishoujo character more in line with shonen fair, but you can’t deny the main characters shoujoness. No overt yaoi, yet. That said, if you want to see something similar but much more interesting, go watch that psionic government team in Manchuria show from a few seasons (year or so?) ago.<\/p>\n risu – didn’t get past the show synopsis (or character designs for that matter).\u00c2\u00a0 You’re thinking of 2010’s Senkou no Night Raid<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 N<\/strong><\/p>\n The Devil is a Part-Timer –<\/strong> (Hataraku Maousama) Satan the demon lord finds himself beaten back by a human hero and escapes with his trusted general\u00c2\u00a0through a dimensional portal into present day Earth, Japan. He vows to return, but on Earth his magic is severely limited so they need to survive until then. To that end they procure the necessities to life in Tokyo and he starts working at “MgRonald’s”.<\/p>\n root – Art, designs and animation are good average. It’s basically a fish out of water device and I find it pretty amusing. I got a good chuckle out of seeing the demon lord subscribe to the MgR creed that through diligent work you can rise through the very lowest ranks to become a manager and even supreme ruler of the world. Maybe not quite as intelligent as Saint Oneesan, but that\u00c2\u00a0only has the one OAV so far. Until we get more of that, this will do fine!<\/p>\n risu – watched the first episode.\u00c2\u00a0 Meh.\u00c2\u00a0 It’s trying for crossover appeal, like mating Working!!<\/em> with Maoyu<\/em> and seeing what pops out.\u00c2\u00a0 This one totally escaped me.\u00c2\u00a0 The production quality was average.\u00c2\u00a0 I bet some giggling fangirls will just watch it because of the CV actors.\u00c2\u00a0 D\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong> (Saint Oniisan<\/em>!\u00c2\u00a0 Dude, I wonder how cool Saint Oneesan would be!)<\/p>\n Red Data Girl –<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0Young girl with strong spiritual potential is being groomed to be the future vessel for the Himegami, a god. To that end, she is assigned a reluctant protector. Being raised in a temple, her strong spiritual affinity, and meekness makes it hard for her to fit in at school and in normal society, but she finds herself taking a step forward.<\/p>\n root – It’s nice to see the latest from PA Works is taking a\u00c2\u00a0little bit of a departure from the school age dramas of their previous works Hanosaka Iroha and Tari Tari. It’s got similar clean designs and art, although the BG art doesn’t feel quite as lavish here. There is\u00c2\u00a0less of a sense\u00c2\u00a0of bureau of tourism art in this show. I like the mysticism element of this. There is still the elements of school life and coming of age stuff. All in all I’m liking it so far.<\/p>\n risu – after the first episode, I was done.\u00c2\u00a0 I did watch Hanasaku Iroha<\/em> all the way through, grudgingly, since the story and characters were\u00c2\u00a0derivitive but the artowrk was amazingly good.\u00c2\u00a0 PA Works next project Another<\/em> was wonderful, but the subsequent Tari Tari<\/em> was a let down for me – it was the beautiful art of Hanasaku Iroha in a setting I am personally familiar with, but with a story that completely disinterested me.\u00c2\u00a0 Like Hanasaku Iroha and Tari Tari,\u00c2\u00a0Red Data Girl is aimed at a teen female demographic, but this time around, instead of the female or mixed\u00c2\u00a0interactions, they are going almost exclusively the bishonen route, surrounding the mousey heroine with various male harem archetypes.\u00c2\u00a0 This one is again like Tari Tari -\u00c2\u00a0a story and characters that I don’t care about – though this time around, the production values aren’t as good, so I don’t really feel like I’m missing out on much.\u00c2\u00a0 Already, I can tell that the heroine’s opening,\u00c2\u00a0“I want to change,” statement will be the core progression, and the soap opera melodrama storyline will be all about her inability to do so, and her interactions with the various pretty boys building her up to be able to assert herself at the end.\u00c2\u00a0 I’m not going to sit through 26 episodes of that.\u00c2\u00a0 D+<\/strong><\/p>\n update: I just marathoned the first six episodes.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0It’s like rewatching My Hime<\/em> or Seikon no Quaser<\/em> story-wise.\u00c2\u00a0 The character animation is nowhere near as good as PA Work’s previous products, in fact at times it is downright awkward.\u00c2\u00a0 The realistic settings which is one of PA Works trademarks is one of the things that makes this one bearable.\u00c2\u00a0 I still don’t think I can keep up with this one though, but I did get through more of it than Tari Tari.\u00c2\u00a0 As a side note, the shrine where she is supposedly a miko at is drawn from the actual Tamaki-jinja<\/a> in Nara-ken, although it is given a fictionalized name.\u00c2\u00a0 C<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What, do I have no life that I actually watch all this?!
